Dear Supporter:
After much consideration the Board of Governors has decided to join the national organisation Redkite, which was formerly known as The Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children in Australia. Our decision was based first and foremost on what would be best for the children and families of Victoria. It is also a natural development given both our organisations share the same heritage and service commitment.
Please be assured that our vital financial, emotional and educational services will continue, along with the established commitment to keep administrative costs to a minimum. Financial support will provide stability and ensure families can be at their child’s bedside, and our social workers professional and practical care will continue to help them through their often long and difficult cancer journey.
By being part of Redkite’s national network, our local families will also be able to access additional services and new initiatives being developed both in hospital and community settings. We look forward to updating you about these services in the future.
I’m sure you are also interested in the new name Redkite. Thanks to the generous support of leading Victorian brand consultants Cato Purnell, a review of the identity The Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children was undertaken. The research conducted with supporters, including representation from Victoria, indicated the overwhelming majority of supporters believed the name was too long, complex and difficult for people to remember and identify with. While supporters thought a change was necessary, there was a desire to keep our musical heritage and link to Sir Malcolm alive if possible.
The new identity of Redkite certainly captures our heritage and unique role in supporting the children and their families. Both colour and movement reflect Sir Malcolm and music; as you are aware he wore a red carnation on his lapel during the day and white for concerts. Redkite also symbolises a sense of hope, our warm spirit and the unique role in guiding the children and their families through the often long and difficult journey of childhood cancer. In addition, Sir Malcolm’s memory continues in the most special of ways, through the funding of Music Therapists in children’s hospitals across Australia.
While our name has changed, most importantly our commitment to vital supportive care, along with our local passion, activities and focus remains unchanged.
You may wish to visit our website www.redkite.org.au for further information.
On behalf of the Board of Governors I wish to thank you for your support and loyalty to our cause, and we hope your generosity and belief in our care for the families continues in the future.
If you have any questions or require further information, our Chief Executive Officer, Jenni Seton or Victorian Development Manager, Megan Johnson, would be happy to speak with you and can be contacted on 1800 334 771.
Yours sincerely,
Robert Dalgleish
